The Trinidad Moruga is up a notch on our list. This is the pepper identified by the New Mexico State University’s Chili Pepper Institute as the brand new hottest chilli pepper in the world as far back as 2012, with the Carolina Reaper holding the top spot as the world record holder. The New Mexico State University however was unable to secure a certification from the Guinness Book of World Records for the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion as the hottest pepper in the world.
